Lynn Turcotte-Schuh, CLC, CCCE

I help busy, at-home Mamas (just like you) go from survive to thrive by having more quality interactions with your kids and guilt-free time for yourself.

Credentials

Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) from Healthy Children Project, Inc Center for Breastfeeding - As she herself moved along her motherhood journey, Lynn added breastfeeding support to the list of ways she could help out the new Mamas in her community. Although Lynn believes "breast is best" she also feels that mental health is more of a priority. She coaches her Mamas to do what feels right for them and their family.
Certified Baby Sign Instructor from My Smart Hands - Lynn's certification with MSH allows her to support families in teaching their little ones ASL signs in order to bridge the gap between ability to communicate (around five months of age) and the ability to speak (between 12 and 24 months of age). Using this tool with her own child has made a huge difference and given them the foundation to continue learning a new language in school.
Certified Childbirth Educator (CCE) from the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association  - Since receiving her initial Childbirth Educator certification from the Bradley Method in 2014, Lynn has taught hundreds of families to prepare for their birthing day. She received her CCE in 2015 and began teaching in local hospitals. In 2019, Lynn founded the At-Home Mamas Club and created an online curriculum inside the community which covers labor, birth, newborn care, postpartum care and breastfeeding.
Experiential Expertise from the Alaska SeaLife Center & Mystic Aquarium - Some things you learn in books, for which you receive degrees, and other things you learn on the job, in the real world, practicing your craft. Lynn spent over ten years building relationships with animals that could literally take her life. She went slow, built trust, learned to understand their triggers & their individual personalities. Through patience, and in small increments, Lynn honed her skills and mastered the art of teaching through connection. From 2500 lb Steller sea lions to one-foot-tall African penguins to her own beautiful daughter, Lynn is an expert in fostering learning and shaping behavior in a positive and nurturing way. (check out the photo gallery below to see her in action) She now coaches the Mamas in her community to do the same.
B.S. Biology with minors in Math, Psychology & Chemistry from Roger Williams University (go hawks) - With a basic understanding of the human body, mammal anatomy and the way we all learn, Lynn set out on her own in 2000 moving to Alaska one week after college graduation. She used all of her degrees (doing algebra problems in times of high stress to calm her nerves) in her career as a Marine Mammologist/Marine Animal Trainer from the summer of 2000 through the birth of her daughter in 2013.

A Note From Lynn

Hi Mama! I'm so glad you're here. And if you have made it this far and are still reading, THANK YOU!!! My name is Lynn and this is my family. I grew up in New England but have lived in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Alaska and Maine. I now reside on our homestead in Voluntown, CT with my amazing wife, beautiful daughter, dogs, cats, ducks, chickens, fish and a gecko.

When I was three years old, my family visited the New England Aquarium in Boston, MA and (my mom has it on tape for proof) I said "I am going to save the whales!". That was it. I had laser focus. Every class, every volunteer and work position, every leisure book was spent learning about marine animals and their watery home...and how to protect them.

I am proud of my career as a Marine Animal Trainer. Inspiring people to care for our planet and all the creatures we share it with was one of my favorite parts of the job...and now I get to continue that with my daughter.

I love being by the ocean, crocheting, playing piano and guitar, having kitchen dance parties and listening to Vivaldi's Four Seasons one minute then Eminem the next. My favorite meal is flat bread with hummus and veggie toppings and I am horribly afraid of snakes. Did I mention we are Vegan (except the eggs from our ducks and chickens).

Most of all, I am beyond excited to connect with you. Head over to Facebook or IG and say "Hey"!
